Catholic Tutor Corps

The Volunteers

There are currently approximately 40 tutors working in 4 different schools.   The tutors come from all walks of life and represent all age groups.  Their are a number of retirees helping the students.....retired engineers, teachers, business executives.   There are tutors who take time out of their work week to spend a couple of hours helping children with math and reading.   St. Thomas Law School has provided almost a dozen tutors each year for the past two years.   These young law students volunteer some of their time each week knowing that help and encouragment they received along the way assisted them in getting into law school.

The CTC has tutors working everyday of the week and both mornings and afternoons in the various schools.  All that is requried in time committment is 1 1/2 to 2 horus per week, [more if you are so inclined], and the school locations, and tutoring needs offer many options to anyone interested in tutoring.   We can accomodate vacation schedules and have a number of tutors that go south every winter, from a few weeks to a couple of months.

Anyone can be a tutor.  All that is requried is the desire to share your knowldge with some young students.   The St. Thomas Law School student below is helping a 7th grader with his math at St. Elizabeth Seton School in North Minneapolis.  Tutors generally work with the same students throughout the year which allows a strong bond to develop between tutors and students.   The tutors often become mentors and role models as much as teachers.
